Obsessive Compulsive Disorders & Related Disorders
Obsessions are a pattern of unwanted thoughts and fears that are a feature of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). These obsessions cause you to engage in compulsions, which are recurrent activities. These compulsions and obsessions cause a great deal of distress and interfere with day-to-day activities.
- Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD)
A preoccupation with perceived flaws or defects in physical appearance, which are either minor or not observable to others. This leads to excessive grooming, mirror checking, or seeking reassurance.
- Hoarding Disorder
Persistent difficulty discarding possessions regardless of their actual value, leading to cluttered living spaces and significant distress or impairment.
- Trichotillomania (Hair-Pulling Disorder)
Recurrent, irresistible urges to pull out one’s hair, leading to noticeable hair loss and repeated attempts to stop the behavior.
- Excoriation (Skin-Picking) Disorder
Repeated skin picking resulting in lesions, along with failed attempts to reduce or stop the behavior, often triggered by stress or anxiety.
- Olfactory Reference Disorder
Obsession with the false perception that one has an objectionable or unpleasant body odor is the hallmark of olfactory reference disorder, sometimes referred to as olfactory reference syndrome.
