Mood Disorders
A group of mental health illnesses known as mood disorders include severe and persistent disruptions in an individual's emotional state. These conditions have an impact on a person's thoughts, feelings, and behavior; they frequently cause distress and make daily living challenging.
- Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
At least two weeks of enduring melancholy, despair, and a diminished interest or enjoyment in the majority of activities. It frequently manifests as exhaustion, changes in appetite, and trouble focusing.
- Bipolar Disorder
Signifies sharp fluctuations in mood, ranging from lows (depression) to highs (mania or hypomania). Energy, activity levels, and judgment can all be impacted by these mood swings.
- Dysthymia (Persistent Depressive Disorder)
A low-grade, chronic depression that lasts for two years or longer. People may go about their daily lives feeling continuously depressed or uninspired.
- Cyclothymic Disorder
A less severe type of bipolar disorder that causes disruptions but doesn't fully fit the diagnostic criteria. It involves periods of hypomanic and depressive symptoms that alternate.
